To provide knowledge and understanding of the tools and techniques that may be used to implement design for more sustainable products and processes.
To introduce the principles of cleaner design and manufacture, the concepts and methodology used in Design for the Environment and the requirement for a holistic view of the sustainability of products and services.
Outline Of Syllabus
Needs for Sustainable products and processes History of clean design and manufacture, green claims and green marketing: Product and system based techniques, such as, Eco-efficiency, Natural Step, LCA, Industrial Ecology, ENVOP, Biomimicry, Decision making in Design. Taught through the use of lectures and workshops.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Key knowledge and concepts of Clean Design and Manufacture are taught in lectures, through discussion and use of videos. Case study based workshops and practical exercise allow the students to evaluate and understand the limitations and applications of tools and techniques in practice.
