Aims

To enhance the ability of the student to apply his/her engineering expertise to solve a problem in an industrial context.

This module comprises an individual assignment leading to the design and development of an original system or device and involving multi-disciplinary skills. The overall theme of the project will be provided by a staff member from the organisation where the project is being undertaken. This module will enhance the ability of the student to apply his/her engineering expertise to solve a problem in an industrial context.

The project will also develop personal skills generic to a range of employment settings and initiate the development of career management skills eg self presentation etc.

Outline Of Syllabus

An individual assignment leading to the design and development of an original system or device and involving multi-disciplinary skills. The overall theme of the project will be provided by a staff member from the organisation where the project is being undertaken. Assessment of the project is based on a presentation and dissertation and will be carried out by a member of academic staff whose research interests or knowledge are relevant to the project.

This module requires the student to undertake a project which will enhance their ability to apply engineering expertise to solve a problem in an industrial context. The student is expected to do this independently.

From the oral presentation and report the ability of the student will be assessed regarding;

Subject-specific, core, cognitive, numeracy and computer literacy, teamwork and design skills - established from a technical assessment of the oral presentation and dissertation.
