Outline Of Syllabus
Introduction to work psychology and synopsis of the breadth of the area.
Psychology of assessment at work: recruitment, selection and appraisal. Validity and reliability issues.
Training and development, focusing on management and leadership development
Work motivation and job design
Workplace stress and employee intervention programmes
Culture and structure: organizational culture and the wider role of cross-culture. Specific types of culture e.g. safety culture. Organisation structure, hierarchy and roles.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
In essence, work psychology concerns the evidence-based practice of psychology in the workplace. The teaching is therefore directed towards testing understanding of application as well as knowledge, by addressing a series of core knowledge inputs in a discussion style in lectures, using organizational practices as examples. The process is intended to be interactive so that students individually or in groups identify the most critical knowledge and information relevant to the issue and present informally them during class hours.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The assessment is intended to ensure that the student can utilise theoretical knowledge in an applied context, so the examination questions will each describe a situation and ask for an analysis of that situation and the prescription of some options for dealing with it, derived from the theory and knowledge acquired during the course. In order to provide adequate time to do this, 60 minutes are allowed for each answer.
FMS Schools offering Semester One modules available as ‘Study Abroad’ will, where required, provide an alternative assessment time for examinations that take place after the Christmas vacation. Coursework with submissions dates after the Christmas vacation will either be submitted at an earlier date or at the same time remotely.
The form of assessment will not vary from the original.
