SEL3325 : Cultural Industries Placement Module (Semester 2)

To give students the opportunity to gain work-related experience in one of the cultural industries which relates directly to their academic study.
To enhance students’ communication and management skills.
To encourage self-appraisal and the ability to work effectively with others.
Outline Of Syllabus
Students attend briefing sessions and training in entrepreneurial skills and are attached to appropriate placement.
Students visit their placement for one day per week (or other form of arrangement as suiting the student and the host) for about 10 weeks (60 hours) where their role will be to undertake duties as agreed between placement provider and Module Leader.
Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence of competence and understanding of the role and the relation of their knowledge and skills to it.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Whilst the skills associated with the module may seem generic and associated with other modules, this module gives students the opportunity to practise them in a work environment. The nature of the work placement requires students to exercise a high level of initiative and resourcefulness. Students will be assessed through the submission of a Project Work Diary and a Final Report which together form the Placement Portfolio.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The Placement Portfolio (diary and final report) will require reflection on and understanding of the organisation, the project and their specific role, as well as the development of their own competencies and skills.
