Education and Skills for Life

At Newcastle University you will develop skills for life. This means giving you the skills and knowledge you need to achieve success in all walks of life, whatever you choose to do.

We have been ranked one of the top 20 ‘most targeted’ universities by the UK's leading employers for the last six years (The Graduate Market, report from High Fliers Research 2018-19 – a report into the universities most targeted for graduate employees by The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers) so we have an excellent understanding of what employers are looking for in their future employees.

In particular, we have worked with employers to define a set of skills that will produce graduates who are well prepared for learning, life and work around the world.

This means that whatever you go on to do – work, further study, travel, self-employment – you'll have the skills and knowledge to apply in a wide variety of contexts.

We have defined these skills in our Graduate Skills Framework (PDF: 274KB).

All Newcastle students have the opportunity to develop these skills as part of their degree and outside their study programme through our skills initiative, ncl+.
