Covid-19 Update - 17 April 2020 - Research Masters Students

Lucy Backhurst, Academic Registrar, shares the latest updates.

Dear Research Masters Students

Please find below an update for our Research Masters students across the University, who are registered on programmes which have both taught and research elements.

I know that you will be concerned about the impact that the current situation may have on your studies and I want to reassure you that we want to support you to complete your studies in line with your original timetable, as far as that is possible.

Taught elements

In terms of any taught elements of your programme, the Safety Net approach outlined in an email from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Education, on 8th April, will apply.

Research dissertation

In relation to your research dissertation, this may require adjustments, and we will provide you with appropriate support to consider how this can be achieved. Your Faculties/Schools will be in contact with you to discuss your research dissertation and how adjustments may be possible.

We aim to minimise the number of students whose completion of their research dissertation is delayed, however, there may be instances where this not possible and in these cases, we are considering a range of potential options to enable you to complete your programme in order that the quality of your research dissertation and the integrity of your overall qualification, will be maintained.

Faculties/programmes will be corresponding with you directly, if they have not already done so, regarding programme-specific requirements.

In-Sessional English Language Support

For EU or International students who are undertaking In-Sessional English, the Team are keen to continue to support you. For those of you already registered on modules, lesson materials will be sent to you directly by your class teacher and you will have the opportunity to ask your teacher questions online.

We will also write to you directly with details of how to register for new online modules designed to support you in writing your research dissertation.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to book 1-to-1 online Writing Tutorials. Details about the booking procedure is available on the In Sessional English website.

Doctoral and MPhil students

A separate update is also being provided to Doctoral and MPhil students this week.

If you have any questions please, either contact your supervisor, or your Graduate School.

With thanks and best wishes,
