Newcastle University London

Dear Newcastle University London Finalists,

As promised last week, I’m writing to provide you with further information about the plans we’re making for your graduation and to remind you of the support you can access from the Careers Service as you plan for life after University.

Further information about the online graduation celebrations that are being planned is now available. This includes details of how you will be able to participate as well as a full schedule listing the date/time of each event.

These events are an opportunity to mark and celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2020. They are not intended to replicate or replace the traditional congregations ceremonies that are held on campus, and we still plan to offer the Class of 2020 the chance of a physical graduation ceremony on campus when social distancing restrictions allow us to do so.

To ensure that we are able to contact you about your graduation ceremony on campus, please make sure that your personal email address is up to date on S3P.

Careers support after you graduate

As you prepare to graduate from Newcastle, remember that your Careers Service is free to use for the next three years, no matter where you are in the world.

Whether you know what you want to do in your future or not, we have a lot of useful information and support online including:

  • Graduate vacancies - A wide range of graduate vacancies are posted on MyCareer - make sure you sign up as a graduate to continue receiving notifications of new roles.
  • Resources - On our website you’ll find information and advice on applications, including example CV and covering letters and online masterclasses. If you have an interview coming up, you can use our video interview platforms to practise your interview and record yourself answering typical interview questions.  All you need to do to access our support is log-on to MyCareer and submit your query via 'Resources' and we'll get back to you as quickly as we can.
  • Start up support - If starting your own business or freelancing is something you’re interested in, our START UP team are providing bespoke, confidential coaching for students and graduates with an early-stage business idea.
  • Advice on further study - Postgraduate study may be on your mind at the moment, our team can talk you through these options too and the financial support available, including the graduate discount.
    • Online networking advice -One of the best ways to boost your chances in the job market is through networking. Although face to face networking isn’t possible at the moment, you can still make contacts and get useful insights through online networking. You can also read about the benefits of online networking and our exclusive mentoring platform NCL Spark in our new blog.
    • News and events - You can keep up to date with careers news and events via our

Careers Service blog, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Keep up to date

Visit your Class of 2020 webpage to find out more about what’s on offer as you start your journey as a graduate of Newcastle University. You’ll even find a personal video message from me on the site…

Student Survey Reminder

Finally, I’d like to remind you of the survey being conducted by Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU), the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team and Inclusive Newcastle to help us to understand the impact of the University’s move to remote delivery. We would very much value your participation in this survey which should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

This is the last email that you will receive from me for the time being, but our Congregations team will be in touch regarding your graduation celebrations.

If you have any questions for us in the meantime, please contact:

Wishing you the best of luck with your results,

Lucy Backhurst
