Faith Facilities

Newcastle University provides a Muslim prayer space in the King George VI, which is accessible to all staff and students with a smartcard. This space is managed by Newcastle University, in accordance with the Faith Space Policy.

There are two quiet rooms available in the Urban Sciences Building, which can be used for prayer and reflection.

IMPORTANT: The KGVI Prayer Space will remain open

Since the first Lockdown the University has worked closely with the Islamic Society and Health and Safety representatives in an effort to open the KGVI Prayer Space as soon it was deemed safe to do so.

In accordance with government guidance the Prayer Space will remain open from Thursday 5th November onwards but for individual prayer only.

Any activity that contravenes University Guidance or puts the wellbeing of others at risk will be dealt with appropriately and the space may end up being closed.

Please see below for more information:

  • The Prayer Space is open and ran in accordance with new guidance. Prayer Space users must familiarise themselves with the guidance before entering the space. A summary document  has also been created for brevity.
  • Students and Staff members must swipe their smartcards to gain entry. This should be done one at a time.
  • In line with NHS Track and Trace, all users must scan the QR code that is displayed at the entrance.
  • It is important to reiterate that any behaviour which contravenes the guidance set out in the documents above will not be tolerated. The health and safety of those who use the space is of upmost importance.

Alternative provision is available in any quiet spaces still open on campus.
