Information for parents, guardians, and family members

We know the important role loved ones play in supporting students while they're at university, and we encourage students to stay in close contact with their family.

If you're ever worried about a student, please phone:

  • Wellbeing Consultancy (Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00): 0191 208 3333
  • Security (out of office hours, 365 days a year): 0191 208 6817

Our teams will do all they can to help you and safeguard the student.

Trusted contacts

Each year, we ask every student to give us the details of two trusted contacts who we can get in touch with if we have a serious concern for their wellbeing. We'll always try and work with the student to talk with any trusted contact(s) themselves, but we'll do this without the student's consent if we feel there's a vital safeguarding matter.
