Our international strategy supports our aim to have a strong international community, experience, reputation and impact.
We are proud of our international community, hosting students from over 120 different countries and staff from over 80 countries. We have excellent cross-cultural interaction from working with more than 200 overseas universities and institutions.
Following the outcome of the 2016 EU referendum, Newcastle University remains committed to collaborations with European partners, international students and staff. The Internationalisation Strategy 2016-21 focuses on the following three strategic objectives:
International presence and impact
We're working with partners across the globe to deliver high-quality research that has an international impact and strengthens our reputation and profile.
An international experience
We enable our students and staff to gain an international experience through student exchanges, work experience and language resources. We promote cross-cultural understanding through our teaching, research, engagement and admin processes.
We aim to develop and embed a consistent understanding of and approach to internationalisation across the University.
We need internationalisation to be threaded throughout the University here and abroad, at all levels, from the activities of our students through to those of staff.
We're proud of our partnerships with international organisations delivering teaching and research in a range of subject areas.
Our international students
Newcastle University is ranked as one of the top 150 universities in the world (QS World Ranking 2018). We also have a thriving international community of over 5,000 international students, with a 93% satisfaction rating from our international students (International Student Barometer Survey Autumn 2017).
Find specific information for international students on our International Study website.
We want best practice from our partner universities to inform the work that we do in Newcastle. We want to learn from their excellent teaching and/or research. It’s very much a two-way process.
