Student Experience

Explore the study options and sustainable resources on offer to our students.

Newcastle University has a varied range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses focused on environmental sustainability. We have subjects from ecosystem management to agricultural studies and engineering.

Find out more about the available courses.

Our induction content provides guidance for our students. We offer advice on how to live and study at the University sustainably.

Library resources

The University Library produces an environmental sustainability guide. It brings together recommended books and journals available at the University to enhance your knowledge in this area. These are important resources if you are studying an environmental subject. They are free for anyone to read, regardless of their degree.

Living on campus

The Accommodation webpages contain lots of information about living on campus. We provide guidance about using your accommodation facilities sustainably.

Additionally, the three student villages at Castle Leazes, Kensington Park and Park View offer Res Life. This is a programme of activities and events, many of which have a sustainability focus.

Within Res Life, Res Action is a climate emergency initiative which students can join. It raises awareness and encourages sustainable behaviour change amongst fellow residents.

Find out about the latest sustainability announcements and upcoming events at Student Services. You’ll also be able to find library resources and information about how you could get involved in sustainability work on campus.

Have your say

Sustainability is a key focus of Newcastle University Students’ Union. There are many different ways in which you can get involved. For example, you could take up a representative position. As the Ethics and Environment Rep, you can apply to represent the student voice on varied areas of University activity.

You can also represent your academic School as an Environment and Sustainability Rep. This enables you to contribute to the Student Environment and Sustainability Committee (SESC), chaired by NUSU’s Ethics and Environment Rep.
