Company Creation

Company Creation

We have an excellent track record for producing spin out companies from research.

We contribute significantly to the regional economy through the creation of high technology, innovative commercial companies that have been spun out from University research.

As the Company Creation team, we have extensive, hands-on experience of creating and successfully managing businesses at the forefront of innovation.

Along with the founding academics, Business Development Managers and an extensive network of external business managers and funders, we strive to create successful new businesses.

We are founding members of the Northern Accelerator programme: four North East universities working together to make a step change in delivering research to the marketplace and to develop entrepreneurship amongst academics.

Northern Accelerator

The Northern Accelerator project aims to attract experienced, dynamic business leaders to work with University spin-out ventures at an early stage, working alongside the founding academic and technology transfer offices to develop and lead a strong management team to take the business forward.

The ultimate objective of the project is the creation of a new innovation based eco-system where talented business leaders will be attracted to high technology, innovative commercial opportunities both created and developed in the north east of England.

The fund makes available up to £30k per opportunity. This, together with a typical "sweat equity" package, aims to broaden the attractiveness of this start-up role. The contracted executives will develop the business plan, make the company investor ready and raise the investment funds to enable him / her to take the business forward.

For more information visit the Northern Accelerator website.

Where the funding for Northern Accelerator comes from

The project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
