Northern Accelerator

Northern Accelerator

Newcastle and Durham universities have joined forces with the support of ERDF programme to help create an innovation based eco-system where talented business leaders will be attracted to high technology, innovative commercial opportunities both created and developed in the North East of England.

Project Aims

The Northern Accelerator project aims to attract experienced, dynamic business leaders to work with University spin-out ventures at an early stage, working alongside the founding academic and technology transfer offices to develop and lead a strong management team to take the business forward.

The ultimate objective of the project is the creation of a new innovation based eco-system where talented business leaders will be attracted to high technology, innovative commercial opportunities both created and developed in the north east of England.

The fund makes available up to £30k per opportunity. This, together with a typical "sweat equity" package, aims to broaden the attractiveness of this start-up role. The contracted executives will develop the business plan, make the company investor ready and raise the investment funds to enable him / her to take the business forward.

How to Connect with the Project

1. Go to https://procontract.due-north.com/Opportunities/
2. In the “search” box in upper right corner, type in 1246 (this is the project’s reference number)
3. This will bring up the tender advert. In the upper right corner is a green button which says “login and register interest in this opportunity”. Click that and follow the instructions.

Please Note. When asked for company details, if you are not representing a company, enter your own contact details and in the next tab, enter ‘sole trader’ in the classification section.

The universities will publicise individual spin-out opportunities as they arise.
