Karen Allenby

Strategic Corporate Partnership Manager


Professional Background

I spent a number of years in Civil Engineering consultancy, both office and site based, specialising in the design and construction of coastal protection projects.

Following my teaching qualification, I worked in secondary science education (UK curriculum, Singapore) and as a high school academic coach (US curriculum, Dubai and UK).

After I completed an MSc at York University I worked within their Rolls-Royce funded University Technology Centre (UTC) specialising in software requirements engineering for aero-engine control systems.

Newcastle University

Since joining Newcastle University in 2014, I have worked in an business-facing capacity across Schools in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), acting as primary point of contact with industry to enrich the experiences and opportunities of our students and to facilitate productive working relationships with businesses. Key mechanisms have included: 

  • Industrial Advisory Panels

  • Industrial student-facing events
  • Engineering placements (short & long)
  • Facilitating student projects with industry
  • Careers Service liaison
  • CV & Application support
  • Employer engagement

As part of the University’s Strategic Corporate Partnerships Team, I support ongoing and new partnerships between Newcastle University and key business collaborators spanning core areas of research, education and engagement. In particular, I have responsibility for managing the University's relationship with Siemens.
