Overview

Newcastle University Business School has expanded its Executive Education programme.

Newcastle University Business School has expanded its Executive Education programmes. We’re offering two new Senior Leader Apprenticeships:

The Senior Leader Apprenticeships are a Level 7 qualification. They're designed in collaboration with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Senior Leader Apprenticeships support organisations who want to build leadership capacity within their team.

Designed for employees to study while they are working, they are aimed at individuals who are currently in, or moving into, strategic roles. They combine personal and professional development with a focus on workplace performance.

Learners will utilise learning in the workplace throughout the programme. The programme combines part-time blended learning with monthly on campus study blocks. These are of up to 2 days per month (Thursday and Friday) during teaching time. We also provide online resources and activities.*

*Information is subject to change and will be in accordance with national guidelines.

Senior Leader Apprenticeships can be funded through the Apprenticeship Levy. A progression route is available on both programmes to achieve the full Executive MBA qualification and Strategic Leadership MSc at an additional cost. This element is not accessible through the Apprenticeship Levy.

Rich learning environment

Engagement in real-world challenges brings a rich learning environment. There’s the opportunity to have immediate impact on the organisation and individual performance.

These programmes are for experienced professionals looking to study whilst working, to gain a Level 7 qualification. We offer a supportive, flexible and transformative environment.

The programmes embody the Business School’s strategic focus and strengths of:

  • Leading on Leadership
  • Future of Work

Who is it for?

The programme is for senior employees in leadership roles. They can balance employment with personal development. This will help them to shape their organisation’s future and own career.

Programme structure

The programme runs over 19 months on a part-time blended learning basis. There are monthly study blocks of up to 2 days per month (Thursday and Friday) during teaching time. Before study blocks, learners will engage with programme and module blended learning materials.

Entry requirements

You need a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent, along with relevant career experience. We'll consider other relevant qualifications, together with significant experience. Candidates will require opportunity to:

  • apply learning in their organisation
  • work in a strategic role

Candidates applying through the apprenticeship route will need to satisfy employer requirements.

Employers need to provide apprentices with 20% off the job time for course activities. Apprentices may need access to organisational data. You may need to stretch project opportunities beyond the scope of their current role. Employers should provide a workplace mentor. The University will support this mentor, as appropriate.

Fees and funding

The total cost of the Senior Leadership Apprenticeship is c. £18,000.

Organisations can fund £14,000 of the fees through their apprenticeship levy. Employers pay a top-up fee of £4,000. Non-levy paying employers, such as SMEs, can request funding through the Apprenticeship Service. If accepted, this involves co-investment. The employer pays 5% (£700) towards the cost of apprenticeship training and a top-up fee of £4,000. They can apply to the Government to cover 95% of the levy funding maximum of £13,300.

Learners who complete the PG Dip in Management Studies have the option to progress to the Executive MBA at an additional cost of £6,000. This is not part of the Senior Leader Apprenticeship and therefore it is not eligible for Apprenticeship Levy funding.

Learners can access the programme as an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) through a non-apprenticeship route. The learner pays the fees, through a scholarship or by their employer directly.
