Policy and Practice

We address real world problems through research.

Policy engagement with local and national governments ensures we are addressing real world problems through our research and provides a rich educational experience for our students.

If you are a policymaker, we can help you find a researcher at Newcastle University working in a specific area of interest.

We will work with you to develop policy briefings or organise events that bring together academics and key stakeholders to address policy challenges.

Local to global engagement

Our international policy engagement is supported in part through initiatives such as the Global Challenges Academy, which fosters research and partnerships to help realise the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Newcastle University Knowledge Exchange Seminar Series (NU-KESS) is a partnership with local authorities and other policymaking organisations that enables Newcastle academics to present their research on contemporary issues to local policymakers.

Professional development

We support our staff through The Policy Academy Fellows Programme, an inclusive, cross-disciplinary, specialised training programme, with support from academics and external specialists who have experience of working in the policy arena.

Get in touch if you would like to explore how you can engage with our academics and their world-leading research.
