Aims

To enable students to develop knowledge of contemporary construction environment, apply the skills required for managing the delivery stages of construction engineering projects, and examine the challenges of construction management and the importance of effective management of people to achieve project success.

Outline Of Syllabus

The following list is indicative. Actual subjects may differ from those listed.

- Ethics and professional practice, commercialism and professional behaviour.

- Scheduling, resource management, and project planning and control.

- Procurement systems, project costs, and estimating, tendering and bid selection.

- Digital Construction, Building Information Modelling and visual planning.

- Health and safety: legislative background, principles of hazard control and prevention, and risk management of health and safety.

-People Management: team dynamics, managing others, behaviour and dealing with conflicts, and communication.

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

Students should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the key construction management areas of knowledge (health and safety, ethic, procurement, digital information management, people management) to enable effective, efficient and safe delivery of projects.

Intended Skill Outcomes

Students should be able to:

- Evaluate, select and apply appropriate approaches from available theories and methods of construction management to develop solutions and recommend courses of action.
- Identify and analyse ethical concerns and make reasoned ethical choices informed by professional codes of conduct.
