Aims

This module has been designed to prepare students for a professional career in HR in diverse organisational settings. It is primarily concerned with key HR skills, students’ personal and professional development and the development of foundational transferable skills. As such, it underpins, integrates and consolidates students’ learning on MSc Global Human Resource Management.

Specifically, the module aims to give students an appreciation of the collection, analysis and interpretation of information as a basis for decision-making and problem-solving. It also aims to develop the interpersonal and cross-cultural skills required by global HR professionals and seeks to foster applied learning and continuing professional development.

Outline Of Syllabus

The syllabus includes pertinent skills required for global HR students and practitioners, in relation to:

1. Information and communication
2. Team working and interpersonal
3. Key human resource management
4. Career management and development

Learning Outcomes

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

1.       Appreciate the key skills required by global HR professionals, including strategic HR planning.
2.       Critically evaluate the quality and reliability of information sources to inform evidence-based decision-making.
3.       Critically evaluate different ethical perspectives and how these inform people practices.
4.       Demonstrate a critical understanding of the different stakeholders involved in the employment relationship and how people practices impact this relationship.
5.       Demonstrate a critical awareness of how organisations anticipate and respond to contemporary business challenges and how this shapes and develops people practices.
6.       Demonstrate a critical understanding of how people practices impact behaviours and performance outcomes.
7.       Demonstrate a critical understanding of the different stakeholders involved in the employment relationship and how people practices impact this relationship.
8.       Demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness, the importance of evaluating their own professional and personal experiences to develop the competences required to plan their future career.

11.       Partner with customers to understand their needs and develop robust business cases that demonstrate a return on investment.
12.       Identify and action their future professional development requirements related to their careers as an HR practitioner / international management practitioner, and to build their career management competences.

The assessment has been designed to ensure that students have a good knowledge and understanding of the module content, to establish that students can work both independently and as part of a team, and to ensure that students can effectively reflect on their own practice to develop their global HR professional skills.

Semester 1 assessment assesses MLOs: Knowledge Learning Outcomes 1 & 2; Skills Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4, 7 & 8.
