Aims

The overall aim of this module is to arm students with the necessary skills to undertake their own research within the field of HRM, work and employment; through this process of discovery, students will be better able to understand, evaluate and critique knowledge within their field of study. This learning will predominantly be achieved through lectures and a series of practical sessions, where students will collect and analyse data, and address the issues involved in doing research.

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

On completion of this module students will be able to:

- better understand how knowledge is created within their field of study
- recognise the issues to be considered when collecting and analysing data
- defend the relative merits of a chosen research design, methodology and/or method when addressing a specific research topic, aim or question

Intended Skill Outcomes

On completion of this module students will be able to:

- appraise the rigour of differing research designs, through an analysis of their fit with the research questions(s) addressed and data involved

- argue for the appropriateness of methodology and methods, and approaches to data collection and data analysis within academic research
