Aims
1. Introduce the concept and explain the importance of e-business
2. Critically discuss the steps and processes of a digital transformation
3. Appreciate the importance of the advent of the information/network economy and role that adoption, acceptance and diffusion of ICT play in this
4. Critically analyse the strategic and organisational implications of e-business
5. Have an in-depth understanding of the how e-business models may facilitate new strategies and organisational designs
6. Explore a number of functional innovations that make new e-business possible
The content will be underpinned by the current research of the lecturer and informed by the latest research publications in relevant literature.

• An in-depth appreciation of the information economy and the role that acceptance, adoption and diffusion of technology plays in shaping the changing business and social environment.
• A critical appraisal of digital transformation and the changes that such a transformation may result in strategies, organisational designs, business models and e-functional innovations
Intended Skill Outcomes
• Critique and implement cutting edge e-business related literature in order to conceptualise a case/problem and propose appropriate recommendations. Apply theory to practice by synthesing and evaluating research findings.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The lectures and seminars will focus on developing student knowledge in the topics discussed. These will be complemented by relevant case studies and guest talks. Students will be expected to carry out directed reading and independent studies where appropriate. The above will be further enhanced by activities through other methods involving online technologies, putting in context what was discussed in the lectures.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The essay will test the students’ grasp of the theoretical developments in an area close to their chosen digital transformation field/theme of interest. Students will need to undertake the necessary research to identify the latest key articles related to their topics, synthesising and presenting their arguments accordingly. They will then need to apply them to a practice problem of their choice. Beyond developing disciplinary knowledge and research skills, the assignment aims to help students appreciate the importance of using theory/models and demonstrate their applicability and relevance to practice. Formative feedback will be given throughout the module.
