Aims
This module provides a practice-based opportunity for students to research and undertake theoretically informed analysis of a current HR&D issue for an external client.
Drawing from the learning across the programme of study, the module provides an opportunity to practically apply learning by engaging with the relevant academic literature, analysing, and synthesising data using appropriate tools, drawing conclusions and making appropriate evidence-based recommendations.
Outline Of Syllabus
This module involves responding to an HR&D issue identified by a client organisation, therefore there is no set syllabus.

On completion of this module, you will be able to demonstrate:
A detailed understanding of access to a wide variety of data and information sources required to establish an evidence base for HR-related decision-making
Practical understanding of techniques of data collection, critical analysis and decision-making applicable to HR theory and practice

On completion of this module, you will be able to demonstrate:
Taking a disciplined and open-minded approach to understand and define organisation issues and their root causes
Assimilating evidence and ideas to identify themes and connections and gain insight on the whole issue and has wider implications
Drawing feasible and appropriate conclusions, making strategic recommendations based on realistic costed options, and develop a persuasive business report
Reflection on learning gained during the project, demonstrating impact on future practice

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The teaching on the module consists of a mix of seminars and workshops, one-to-one supervision and a field trip to their client organisation. The module leader will liaise with the client organisation[s] to secure a range of relevant research materials. The seminars and workshops will support the students to understand the client brief and to engage with, and start analysing, the research materials provided. The field trip will help the students gain an understanding of the context of their client organisation and appreciate practical limitations impacting on possible recommendations. The one-to-one support will provide advice and guidance on development of their report document.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The module provides students with the opportunity to apply their learning to a practical HR&D related issue. The assessments will enable the students to develop and demonstrate their abilities to engage with research materials, analyse, present evidence-based recommendations, and their reflective practice skills.
RESIT INFORMATION: If students are eligible to a second attempt resit will be an assignment and the resit calculation will be based 100% on the submission.
