Aims
1. To introduce learners to different methodological approaches to the observation, description and analysis of interaction in the IELTS Speaking Test and second language classrooms.
2. To introduce learners to key issues of instructed second language learning and testing in relation to spoken interaction.
Outline Of Syllabus
Learners will also be introduced to key issues of testing re the IELTS Speaking Test, as well as instructed second language learning, in relation to spoken interaction. We will analyse videos and transcripts of language teaching from around the world as well as interaction from IELTS Speaking Tests.

1. Learners will gain knowledge of different methodological approaches to the observation, description and analysis of interaction in L2 Learning and Testing Interaction

3. Learners will gain understanding of the complex, reflexive relationship between pedagogical and testing theory and practice.

Lectures provide an introduction to the weekly content, establish a basic level of understanding of the topic, provide opportunities for discussion and personal reflections, and signal areas for individual further study and essential and further reading. Group activities are often linked to pre-class weekly reading
Structured Guided Learning activities provide students with weekly opportunities to consolidate learning through guided tasks linked to the weekly topic.
Independent study will enable wider reading, further personal self-reflection and assignment preparation.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
All skills and knowledge will be assessed through and end of module essay, in which students will produce a critical evaluation of some aspect of spoken interaction research and theory and how this relates to practice.
