Aims

This module will enable students to acquire a solid footing in construction project management by covering key theoretical concepts and techniques across the entire life cycle of a construction project from early feasibility through planning and execution to commissioning and handover.

Outline Of Syllabus

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The module will be delivered using a mix of PiP lecture, practical and asynchronous activities and Drop-in Sessions. There is one full day (PiP or on-line synchronous depending on circumstances) of Project Management simulation session undertaken in groups in a lab environment using a gamified real-world project. Knowledge of theory and practice are addressed within the PiP and asynchronous activities with practical application being addressed within the project management simulation.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The individual essay will test student skills and abilities in addressing a selected construction management topic that is key to deliver effective and efficient construction projects. This is supplemented with the formative live simulation exercise which is key to mimic the dynamics of live projects where individuals work as part of teams and interact with a variety of stakeholders when making decisions. Finally, the group report will use reflection in groups to evaluate students’ abilities and skills developed during the live simulation exercise and other PiP activities and will use the full reflective to develop a course of actions and improvement for the future.
