Teaching Rationale And Relationship

A mixture of synchronous online sessions and PIP seminars to provide initial guidance / input in interpreting skills and then delivery of specific subject content. The seminars enable students to prepare, practise, perform and discuss interpreting tasks assigned to them. The drop-in/surgery sessions aim to offer more personalised feedback and guidance. The high number of hours relative to private study is determined by the nature of interpreting training, which requires much guided intensive training to develop skills and ability. Synchronous online sessions are also for the training of remote interpreting, which is an essential skill for interpreters today.

Formative Assessments

Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.

Description Semester When Set Comment
Oral Examination2MMock exam to help students familiarise with the procedure of the final exam, and receive formative feedback for performance
Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The panel-assessed interpreting continuous assessments will allow students to demonstrate their interpreting skills in a simulated setting and to build up their interpreting experience to cope with different scenarios, as well as to evaluate their progress over the course.

During the course of the study, students will be given “mock exam” as formative feedbacks. This approach allows the students more time to reflect their learning without too much pressure, and make progress according to individuals’ different pace of learning.
