Aims

In this module will involve group work in delivering a start-to-end processing flowline for a particular geospatial application. It will provide the opportunity to integrate learning and understanding along with practical skills gained in geospatial data capture, management, analysis, modelling and visualisation. Working in small groups you will develop over 1-month a bespoke solution to the problem set. The module will allow you to develop new skill sin cooperative working and team organisation.

Outline Of Syllabus

1.       Group Working:
Groups will be selected with a mix of skills and abilities for a range of roles in relation to the project brief. Each group will have an academic mentor who can advise on the problem specification but will not generally intervene in the group. At the end of the project, there will be an opportunity to debrief with faculty members and to share experience of good and bad practice in team working.

2.       Geospatial Systems thinking:
Groups will be expected to deliver an integrated solution to the problem brief that covers not only the complete processing flowline but also considers and reflects on the professional, legal, ethical and social considerations of the project. Groups will also be expected to consider how their solution could be ‘scaled-up’ within the geospatial industry to deliver TRL 6+ innovation.

3.       Reporting and Dissemination:
Groups will be expected to maintain a technical development record of progress and individuals will maintain a reflective log. Groups will be expected to report on progress regularly to their academic mentor. Groups will present their final solution as well as submit a group report detailing their work. Students will also prepare a short individual report outlining their contributions alongside their own personal reflective log.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The group workshop will allow rapid group interaction and development of the group working ethos. The day-to-day group interaction for the month long project will develop team working and communication skills through peer-to-peer engagement and support. Regular feedback session will allow students to develop presentation skills and reflect on how work is progressing, set deliverables and milestones collectively. The independent project will allow students within a group environment to consolidate and apply their learning and skills from previous modules with a start-to-end workflow.
