Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The lectures introduce students to the required topics and give a grounding in the principles of the subject area. Seminars and tutorials are used for more in-depth investigation and discussion of selected topics. In-course tests allow formative feedback to be provided. The coursework will allow students to gain practice in carrying out mathematical and statistical calculations and applying relevant concepts. Regular feedback will allow students to gauge progress. Directed self-study enables students to consolidate their learning.

| Portfolio | 2 | M | 15 | Portfolio of evidence of learning using a variety of assessment methods - 10 questions across the semester |
Formative Assessments
Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.
| Description | Semester | When Set | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC Examination | 1 | M | Routine test to ensure regular work - 5 questions |
| PC Examination | 2 | M | Routine test to ensure regular work - 5 questions |
Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The unseen examinations and in-course tests assess the students’ knowledge of the subject material and the in-course tests allow formative feedback to enable the student to gauge their progress. Coursework assesses the ability of the students to carry out numerical manipulations and interpret results. Feedback following each piece of work will help learning in this area of study.
