Aims

This module aims:

1.To introduce students to business models and management concepts, within a range of contemporary organisational topic areas, for the purposes of postgraduate study and future employability.

2.To familiarise students with the language of international business and demonstrate application of theoretical models to a range of international business case studies.

3.To critically engage students with a range of key theoretical approaches for businesses in the 21st century.

Outline Of Syllabus

The focus is on developing an understanding of the business context in which leaders and managers need to operate, and examining aspects of a business that need leadership and management so as to ensure business success.

Learning Outcomes

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

1.Identify and critically evaluate main contributions of business and organisational principles and theory within the international business environment, at a macro and micro level.

2.Recognize and debate key environmental factors, such as globalization and sustainability, which influence current international business.

3.Apply a range of theoretical models and frameworks to a range of international business case studies, and measure the contribution of such approaches in aiding companies to achieve sustained competitive advantage.

4.Formulate original and effective strategies for implementation in a competitive global environment.

Intended Skill Outcomes

1.Use terminology appropriate to the field of business and management.

2.Locate and research a range of academic sources including proficiency with the library search, subject specific guides, academic databases and newspaper databases

Lectures are used to introduce material to students and explore theories and concepts.

Small group teaching sessions are used to critically evaluate issues in organisation behaviour and develop skills through discussion, presentation etc.

Study clinics (drop-in/surgery above) are used to deal with academic issues which may be causing students problems.
