Aims

This module provides the opportunity for students to undertake independent academic research into a problem relating to Global Human Resource Management. Drawing on their knowledge, skills and analytical tools across the GHRM programme, students are required to engage with the relevant academic literature; collect, analyse and synthesise data using appropriate tools, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

Outline Of Syllabus

The content of this capstone module includes contemporary HR-related research issues covered as part of this programme that students will examine in independent study. Therefore, there is no set syllabus.

Learning Outcomes

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

On completion of this module the students will have:
• a detailed understanding of access to a wide variety of data and information sources required to establish an evidence base for HR-related decision-making;
• A systematic understanding of relevant academic knowledge and a critical awareness of current HR-related research;
• Practical understanding of techniques of data collection, critical analysis and decision-making applicable to HR theory and practice;
• Practical understanding of producing a concise and persuasive dissertation.

Intended Skill Outcomes

On completion of this module the students will be able to:
• Identify and justify a business issue that is of strategic relevance to the organisation;
• Critically analyse and discuss existing literature, contemporary HR policy and practice relevant to the chosen issue;
• Undertake a systematic analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative information and present the results in a clear and consistent format;
• Take a disciplined and open-minded approach to understand and define organization issues and their root causes
• Assimilate evidence and ideas to identify themes and connections and gain insight on the whole issue and its wider implications
• Draw realistic and appropriate conclusions and make recommendations based on a realistic understanding of costed options;
• Develop and present a persuasive business report;
• Write a reflective account of what has been learned during the project and how this can be applied in future.
• Communicate their analysis, conclusions and recommendations effectively;
• Demonstrate initiative, insight and comprehensiveness when ensuring that the scope (breadth, depth, variety of sources) of data gathered is appropriate to the complex and wide-ranging nature of the dimensions of a typical HR-related business issue;
• Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level.
