Aims

This module is designed to provide a real-world international learning experience for students through studying up to 10 elective credits at an international partner institution. Agreement is subject to approval of module content and assessment requirements by the appropriate masters Degree Programme Director and appropriate Board of Studies.

The distinctive features of this module allow students to (a) evaluate the international perspectives of their chosen field of study by selecting and exploring a topic of interest, or relevant to their workplace or employment aspirations, (b) engage with other students from across the globe in an intensive study period, and (c) develop cross-cultural awareness.

Outline Of Syllabus

The module will be undertaken at a partner institution and module content will vary accordingly. Students participating in this module will use the challenging learning experience to reflect on their international and intercultural perspectives through real world learning.

Learning Outcomes

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

Upon completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Critically reflect on the international perspectives of their chosen field of study.
2. Critically evaluate their cross-cultural awareness.
3. Reflect on their learning as reflective practitioners.

The Module will also enable students to develop depth or breadth in their NUBS programme of study determined by the choice of module at the partner institution.

Intended Skill Outcomes

The module should, through undertaking learning in unfamiliar environments and contexts, enable students to:
1. Adopt appropriate behaviours and demonstrate independence and co-operative attitudes towards meeting challenges and change.
2. Reflect constructively on their own personal development, evaluating achievements and identifying ways of improving performance.

Formative Assessments

Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The assessment undertaken at the partner institution will form the basis of the mark in this module and will be supplemented by a reflective written piece as agreed in the Learning Agreement.

Dependent on the credit bearing arrangements for the partner module, the reflective written piece will ensure that the total credit value equates to a NUBS 10-credit assessment. The Learning Agreement will specify the precise mix of assessment but NUBS will set and assess a minimum of 20% of the module credit to assess specific module learning outcomes related to international perspectives and cross-cultural awareness.

Depending on the relative credit of the partner module, the indicative relative weighting is as follows:

Partner Credits (European)       NUBS Assessment. Indicative NUBS Assessment
2 ECTS / 4 cr or below       3.0 ECTS / 6 cr or above       1500 words (80%)
3 ECTS / 6 cr       2.0 ECTS / 4 cr       800 words (40%)
4 ECTS /8 cr or above       1.0 ECTS / 2 cr       500 words (20%) minimum
