Service Description

The brokerage service provides access to external specialist consultants for database design; SQL server administration and usage; and application development.

Access to specialist consultants in three areas:

  1. Database design
  2. SQL Server administration and usage
  3. Application development

Ready-procured external consultancy expertise through a framework.
Assisted contract managementAbility to host assets on University servers, or, where appropriate, through external providers.

Users

The service is available to staff at Newcastle University leading projects and running services requiring managed assets such as websites, databases and applications.  The business owner of the project or service should be fully engaged in requesting the service.

Access to the assets created by the Brokerage service can be both internal and external to the University.

Service Hours

Consultation, advice and guidance: 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday, excluding University closure periods.

Level of Service

An initial response will be provided to any enquiry within three working days.

The time to scope/gather requirements will depend on the complexity of the request.

Responsibility for the quality of the brokered IT services rest in the relationship between the supplier and the user/ business owner, assisted where appropriate by the brokerage service itself.

Support for any IT development or project resulting from the use of the brokerage service is out of scope of the Brokerage Service itself and will depend on the nature of the activity.

Request Process

  1. Enquiries about using the Brokerage Service should be sent to the IT Service Desk (or https://nuservice.ncl.ac.uk)

     

  2. Users are asked to fill the  "IT Development Brokerage Service, Triage Checklist" form with their requirements http://www.ncl.ac.uk/itservice/technical-services/it-brokerage/

  3. An evaluation panel formed by colleagues from NUIT will discuss the initial requirements to assess if they are best fulfilled by the Brokerage Service. (Please note that the meetings are pre-scheduled for every first and third Tuesdays on a monthly basis.)

  4. Users will be informed of the outcome of the meeting

  5. If suitable for brokerage, further consultation will then take place with the selected Supplier(s).

User Responsibility

In order to use the service effectively, a succinct description of requirements needs to be provided in a timely manner. Once an engagement has been fully defined and initiated users will typically be responsible for the day to day relationship with the selected consultant(s). The business owner for the project or service should be fully engaged in requesting the service.

Costs

1.    Initial scoping and IT consultation: no cost
2.    Consultant’s delivery: Between £400 and £525 (excl VAT) per day dependent on the supplier used and the specialism required.
3.    Other Costs: Dependent on the work being requested these could include, for example, external domain hosting, software licences, content licensing, etc.
