Printing

Our printing service is capable of printing a wide range of documents in whatever quantity you require. Whether you need course handbooks, postcards, leaflets or magazines, we're more than happy to help you find the best way to get your message across.

Setting up your documents for print

Images

We recommend that any photographs, graphics or logos should be at least 200 dpi in resolution to avoid pixilation when printed. Please note, many images (including logos) used on web pages are of a very low resolution and are not suitable for printing.

Bleed

We are able to print your documents full-bleed (with print running to the edge of the page) but we do ask that artwork is supplied with 3mm bleed on all sides.

Fonts

We advise that you use fonts which are readily available on PCs. If it is necessary for you to use specialised fonts we recommend that you embed them into your document or submit your file as a PDF.

University crest

We are unable to supply the University logo to customers directly but it can be obtained by request from the University Image Library.

You may proportionally enlarge, or reduce the logo, but it must not be distorted, or altered in any way. The University's Brand Guidelines include comprehensive details on how the crest should be used.

Submitting your work

Electronic submission

We recommend that you submit your work as a digital file whenever possible. We are able to accept the following file formats:

  • Print-Ready PDF (preferred)
  • Any Microsoft Office document
  • High-resolution jpeg or tiff
  • Photoshop Document (PSD)
  • Encapsulated Postscript (EPS)

Files can be submitted by email or on removable media through Print Services reception. Internal customers can also submit larger files using the University's Dropoff facility

Hard copy

We are able to scan hard copies of your document but this may increase the amount of time it takes to process your request. We do not recommend submitting your work as hard copy for high-quality reproduction as our scanning equipment is optimised for speed rather than quality.

We are only able to scan documents which are unbound and free from staples or paper clips and can only offer scanning as part of our printing service.

Turnaround times

We will carry out your printing as quickly as possible and will always aim to work within your deadline.

Our standard turnaround times are as follows:

  • Black & White: 3 working days
  • Colour: 5 working days

We can often produce work within these times - if you require your work to be printed more quickly, please feel free to ask.

We experience particularly high workloads at certain times in the year which may lead to some jobs taking longer to process than usual. Our service typically experiences peak demand during the weeks leading up to the beginning of term (particularly throughout August and September) and during the run-up to exam periods (December, January and May). We do our best to minimize any delays and advise you to submit any work as early as possible during these times.
