Dr Federico Santangelo

Senior Lecturer in Ancient History

Background

 

Federico Santangelo took his first degree at Bologna, where he studied at the Collegio Superiore, and holds a PhD from University College London. He is the author of Sulla, the Elites and the Empire. A Study of Roman Policies in Italy and the Greek East (Leiden-Boston: Brill, 2007), Divination, Prediction and the End of the Roman Republic (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press 2013), Teofane di Mitilene. Testimonianze e frammenti (Tivoli: Tored 2015), and Marius (London: Bloomsbury, 2016). He was a member of the research group that edited Imagines Italicae, the first complete corpus of Italic inscriptions, under the direction of Michael Crawford (Imagines Italicae. A Corpus of Italic Inscriptions, London 2011). He works and publishes on the political and intellectual history of the late Republic, on Roman religion, on problems of local and municipal administration in the Roman world, and on aspects of the history of classical scholarship. He is the Reviews Editor of Histos (www.histos.org). He is Director of Research (including Postgraduate) at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

He is keen to hear from prospective research students with an interest in Roman Republican history, Roman religion, Roman Italy, or the history of classical scholarship.
