We are committed to providing a friendly and accessible service for disabled students so that they may study effectively and make full use of the opportunities at Newcastle University.
Advice, information and guidance is available to disabled applicants and students at all stages of their university career. In addition, we liaise with academic schools over students' support requirements and external agencies where appropriate. Use the links on the side to find out more information about the support we offer.
Whilst Student Wellbeing and your School will work to support you throughout your time at Newcastle, you will need to participate in the support that is offered to you to make it work. In particular, if you feel that your support requirements change at any time, then it is important that you let us know so that they can be reviewed to meet your needs.
We also provide advice and resources for staff working with disabled students. For guidance on the roles and responsibilities of your school, the Student Wellbeing Adviser and yourself then please click here.
If you have a medical condition, longstanding illness or, disability for which you may require support while studying please contact the Student Wellbeing Service prior to commencing your course.
Specific guidance and support in relation to your condition or disability can be found here: medical conditions, physical impairment, Blind/Partially Sighted, D/deaf or Hard of Hearing.
To access study support through the Student Wellbeing Service you will also need to provide medical evidence/confirmation of your circumstances and everyeffort will be made to provide facilities and support appropriate to you.
Most International disabled students and those studying non-degree courses cannot usually access DSA. There are specific eligibility conditions related to residence in the UK which have to be met in order to qualify for this funding.
In some cases, you may be eligible for other sources of funding, see Fees Funding and Finance or funding from external organisations, such as the Snowdon Awards Scheme. We can provide you with further advice on whether you are eligible and how to apply.
If you require any further information on this please contact us.
