Study With Us

Our postgraduate students are very much a part of our active research environment.

Our students have access to excellent facilities, in one of the largest behaviour groups in the UK.

We have weekly research meetings, where attendees are able to discuss ideas and research with other students and members.

Research Master's (MRes)

We offer three Research Master's degrees.

Two offer a one-year programme in behavioural research, specialising in either animals or humans.

This programme offers in-depth teaching of the theoretical and practical aspects of animal welfare science. We do this using a multi-disciplinary approach. It will cover laboratory, farm, companion and wild animals, encompassing vertebrates and invertebrates.  We offer workshops on pain assessment, experimental design, data analysis and visualisation in R, as well as sensors and behaviour informatics approaches. Students also have the opportunity to follow the Home Office accredited PIL A/B training course for regulated procedures in animals.

Students will conduct their own 24-week research project. During this, they will gain in-depth knowledge and research skills from leading researchers and will receive extensive hands-on research experience.

This will prepare them for a PhD or a research-related position.
