Development Opportunities

We provide our students with a wide programme of professional development opportunities so they gain the skills and experience you’re looking for.

There are many ways the business world impacts positively on our students, making sure our graduates are equipped for life after university.

Career development

Annual event

Our annual Career Development Event is in place to help advance our students’ career preparation. Throughout the week, students attend specially tailored sessions to enhance the skills required to move into a business environment. They also get a chance to engage with leading business people so we can make sure they’re learning from the people in the know.

JobFest

Our students also benefit from JobFest, a two-day event aimed at those looking to recruit students in their final and penultimate year for opportunities starting the following summer and autumn.

Global alumni network

Our graduates are encouraged to use the global alumni network via LinkedIn. The network provides an excellent opportunity to engage with alumni who are already working in the business world and to learn from their real-world experiences.

ncl+ Scheme

A large number of our students choose to develop their transferable skills by taking part in the ncl+ scheme. The opportunities can range from coaching a sports team, to working on a student newspaper or leading a student society. By the time they’ve graduated, they will have developed a diverse skill-set to put to use in the business world and are eager to put their theory into practice.

The ncl+ Award allows our students to attend bespoke workshops and to meet and learn from employers. The award recognises students’ achievements and provides an opportunity to take their new skills beyond university.

International expertise

Exclusive to Newcastle University Business School, students also get the chance to take part in an innovative programme of extra-curricular opportunities.

Global Experience Opportunity (GEO)

GEO introduces students to the international business community and helps equip them with the skills they need to succeed in global markets.

Within GEO, students are able to take part in a range of events, business case competitions and both regional and international internships.

Our GEO internships hold a focus of improving global employability and giving student CVs that crucial international edge.

GEO has also won the Educate North Employer Engagement Award for 2016, demonstrating the positive impact our programme has on boosting our graduates’ employability.

Gain a Global Advantage (GaGA)

Our GaGA event, held annually, provides an afternoon of inspiring talks, interactive workshops and networking with employers all with a global focus.

The event attracts speakers from a range of international firms including, HSBC, Nike, PayPal, Ubisoft and Boden.

Our attending graduates have all been able to raise their global profile while learning the critical skills they need to excel in an international business environment.
