Business School academic named as President of British Universities Industrial Relations Association

We are pleased to announce that Dr Jo McBride has been named as the President of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA).

Dr McBride will be supported by members of the School’s Human Resource Management, Work and Employment research group in the Stewardship of BUIRA from 2016 – 2019.

The British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) is one of the largest academic associations in the United Kingdom aimed at promoting the study of employment relations across relevant academic disciplines. It has an annual national conference where members present their research and share interests and debates. The association also supports a wider set of activities including a series of thematic study groups, occasional publications and a vibrant doctoral network.

The ever growing PhD network now holds its own annual national PhD Symposium. Being a part of one of the largest academic associations in the United Kingdom the BUIRA PhD Network aims to provide support and encourage collaboration among doctoral students in the fields of employment relations, human resource management, and labour market studies. The network has grown rapidly in the last five years; it currently involves over 100 PhD students from more than 40 institutions including leading UK and overseas universities.

Since it was first established in 1950, BUIRA is overseen by a President of the Association, a team of Stewards (officers with responsibility for communications, membership and financing) and an Executive (with members elected every three years).
