A core group of researchers in the Centre for Behaviour and Evolution investigate the proximate mechanisms underlying behaviour, usually from an evolutionary and/or a comparative perspective. Our joint approach is to understand the evolution of cognition in animals, as well as the endocrinological and neural mechanisms that underlie behaviour. For this work, we have dedicated behavioural laboratories, and electrophysiological, molecular biological and anatomical facilities at our disposal.
Our main research strengths lie in the following three areas:
However, there are also a number of collaborations across these areas, that allow us to open up novel areas of research that integrate neuroscience and evolutionary biology.
