A core group of researchers in the Centre for Behaviour and Evolution investigate the proximate mechanisms underlying behaviour, usually from an evolutionary and/or a comparative perspective.
Our joint approach is to understand the evolution of cognition, as well as the endocrinological and neural mechanisms that underlie behaviour. For this work, we have dedicated behavioural laboratoriesand electrophysiological, molecular biological and anatomical facilities at our disposal.
We study an exceptionally wide range of systems from locusts, mantids and honey bees, to birds, monkeys, apes and humans. We have a number of comparative projects that span several species.
Our interest areas include 3D vision, olfaction, taste, learning and memory, decision-making, and social learning.
