Research Funding

BBSRC logoOur major source of funding is the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), although our multidisciplinary research falls within the remits of many of the UK Research Councils, and has been supported by grants awarded from the:

  • Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
  • Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
  • Medical Research Council (MRC).

A significant proportion of our research funding comes from other sources (ncl.ac.uk/cbe/research/funding/funders – new web page), including:

Major research fellowships have also been awarded to Centre members from the BBSRC, the Royal Society, and the Lloyds Tercentenary Fund.

Centre members have also been successful in securing funding for research infrastructure. A major £8.3M Wellcome Trust JIF Award provides us with state-of-the-art laboratories for our behavioural experiments. In 2008/9 we will be building a suite of climate-controlled chambers for behavioural and physiological experiments, supported by the BBSRC. This will be a unique facility within the UK.

The CBE receive support from a diverse range of funding bodies.
