Energy Sector Digitalisation: CESI POSTnote Contributions

Earlier this autumn, CESI Director Professor Sara Walker and research associate Dr. Zoya Pourmirza, contributed to a POSTnote on the subject of digitalisation within the energy sector. In particular, it covers how digital technologies in the energy sector can support progress towards key UK objectives, such as Net Zero emissions targets.

The POSTnote summarises these key topics:

  • key digital technologies and their main applications in the energy sector e.g. Internet-of-Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)

  • potential benefits to using these technologies, and recent developments in this area

  • the role of data in underpinning digital technologies in the sector, and some of the issues raised by its use

  • broader challenges associated with energy sector digitalisation and measures that could help address them, including issues related to technology, regulation, and impact on consumers
