Technology within the Urban Sciences Building: how is it being used to make our lives greener?

Professor Sara Walker and Dr. David Greenwood talks to Ben from the Centre of Life about the technology that exists in the Urban Science Building.

The Urban Science Building was opened in 2017 and forms part of the Newcaslte Helix site within Newcaslte's city centre.

Not only is this builing home to 1,395 Computing staff and students, but the building itself is a living laboratory. With over 4,000 digital sensors, computing technology is embedded throughout the structure, making it one of the most monitored and high-performance buildings in the country.

It provides real-time data about how buildings perform in terms of energy and heating use, which is alo why it is a demonstrator for the Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI) project, where stakeholders and researchers can analyse every aspect of the buildings performance.

CESI Director Professor Sara Walker and CESI researcher Dr. David Greenwood, shared their knowledge on the specalised equipment of the Urban Science Building as part of the Climate matters video series for the Centre of Life
