What is the role of the energy sector in the move to net zero?

In Newcastle University’s latest blog, Director of The Centre for Energy and CESI Professor Sara Walker, discusses how the energy sector has a part to play in the global challenge to transition to net zero.

With COP26 continuing, From Newcastle have produced a series of COP26 related blogs.

The latest blog features Director of the Centre for Energy and CESI, Professor Sara Walker providing answering ‘What is the role of the energy sector in the move to net zero?’

Sara voices her concerns with COP26 targets: “The COP26 announcement that 40 countries commit to shift away from coal is a tiny step in what should be an urgent sprint,” says Prof. Walker. 

In order to facilitate a net zero energy sector "…we need a multitude of solutions to transition to clean forms of energy" and "we need to tailor solutions to the local context."
