Documentary film screening with Q&A

Matices: Migración “Temporal” en Canadá | Perspectives: “Temporary” Migration in Canada (2011)

Date/Time: 22 February 2017, 16:00 - 18:00

Venue: Devonshire G.27

This documentary (in both English and Spanish) focuses on the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program in Canada and Mexican and Caribbean temporary migrants. For some Canadians the temporary workers are profit machines, but for others they represent an opportunity to discover points of view and nuances that enrich the human sensibility. This documentary offers reflection on the way we receive those who come from far away looking for a better quality of life.

Following the film, director Dr Aaraón Diaz Mendiburo will be available for an audience Q&A session via Skype.

As the UK Government is considering introducing seasonal agricultural programs to mitigate the effects of Brexit on agriculture, this film is an important introduction to the main issues which may arise.

This event is jointly organized by CLACS and GoSC (Geographies of Social Change).
