I completed my PhD in quantum fluid physics at Durham University in 2005 under the supervision of Professor Charles Adams. Following this I took up a post-doctoral position in theoretical condensed matter physics at the University of Melbourne with Professor Andy Martin (2005-2007), and then held the position of Canadian Commonwealth Postdoctoral Scholar at McMaster University (2007-2008) working with Professor Duncan O'Dell. From 2008-2011 I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Food Science and Nutrition working with Professor Megan Povey. In 2011 I joined Newcastle University as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics.
From 2017-2020 I was Director of Postgraduate Studies. In 2020 I took up the role of Head of School. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Higher Education Academy, and a Chartered Physicist.
