Gaby Chiappe, Ann Cleeves and Elaine Collins in discussion with Stacy Gillis

Gaby Chiappe, Ann Cleeves and Elaine Collins will be discussing their work as writers and producers of the hugely successful crime fiction hit series Vera (ITV) and Shetland (BBC), both based on the detective fiction series of the same name written by Ann Cleeves. They will also be talking about the role of women in contemporary television today in the UK and beyond.

Gaby Chiappe has written for EastEnders, Casualty and Survivors as well as Vera and Shetland. Her first feature film, Their Finest, premiered at the London Film Festival 2016.

Ann Cleeves received the Crime Writers’ Association Diamond Dagger in 2017, the highest honour in British crime writing, and is the author of over 30 bestselling novels.

Elaine Collins was Creative Director at BBC Drama, and previously Executive Producer at ITV Studios where she developed and produced Vera. She is currently developing and co-producing TV drama projects
at STV Productions.

Stacy Gillis is a lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature at Newcastle University.
