On February 23rd at Northern Stage, judges John Burnside and W.N. Herbert were proud to announce the winners of the inaugural NCLA Water Poetry Competition.

In the main category Emma Harding won first prize with her poem ‘Lizzie Siddal in the Bath', followed closely by Elaine Ewart with ‘Slipping’ in second place. Hannah Lowe’s poem ‘Early Morning Swim’ came third.

The winner of the North East Young Adults category was Sam Summers with his fantastic poem ‘I Made Time Stop’. Poems by Daniel Hinds, Conor Robinson and Felicity Powell were highly commended.

Details of our Belonging-themed poetry competition for under 19s in the North East will be announced in the next few weeks.
