Newcastle University's research in media, culture, heritage is ranked among the top in the UK.
The Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF), the UK’s method for evaluating research quality, has highlighted that 82% of our media, culture and heritage research is ‘World Leading’ and ‘Internationally Excellent’.
Our commitment to connecting leading academic research with innovative cultural practice is recognized with 80% of our work being championed as having global and international significance and impact. Our research environment was rated as world leading and internationally significant.
For REF 2014 ICCHS researchers from the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies were submitted alongside colleagues from media and cultural studies to the Unit of Assessment: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies (UoA36). Our submission was ranked as 12th out of 67 in the country. As our first joint submission to the REF in this grouping, this represents an outstanding result.
