Spectroscopy and elemental analysis

We can support your research with our facilities and expertise.

We offer spectroscopy and elemental analysis and a variety of other techniques. These include Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS), Fluorescence spectroscopy and Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Sulfur (CHNS) elemental analysis.

If you need any technique not shown on our website, contact us, as we may still be able to help.

Our services

ATR-FTIR spectroscopy

Quick, non-destructive characterisation of a wide range of organic, polymeric and inorganic compounds. We have several Perkin Elmer Spectrum 2 and a Thermo Nicolet is50 available.

UV-VIS

Often used to quantify various compounds in solution. These may include biological molecules, conjugated organic molecules and transition metals. Other applications include reaction rate monitoring, and structural elucidation of organic compounds.

Fluorescence spectroscopy

A type of electromagnetic spectroscopy used to analyse fluorescence from a sample. We have a Shimadzu RF-6000, which can be used to generate excitation and emission spectra.

CHNS elemental analysis

Our CHNS elemental analysers allow rapid determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur from a range of solid and liquid samples. It is also possible to analyse organic, inorganic, and elemental carbon phases using temperature ramping on our RC612.

Our staff
