The School also offers research in Film, Media and Visual Arts, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Politics, Society and History, Translation and Interpreting Studies, and Cultural Studies. Have a look at our lively Research Seminar programme.
We are also the provider for German Extension Courses in the Northeast region with the support of the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences and funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).
In the last teaching quality assessment the School received an excellent rating of 22 out of 24 points. Modern Languages were one of five schools in the university selected for inspection in the external Institutional Audit of 2005. The subsequent report expressed 'broad confidence' (the highest possible commendation) in the quality and range of our teaching.
The Head of School is Dr Elizabeth Andersen.The School is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
