Schwitters in NewcastleAn art exhibition combined with workshops and a school competition
Location: School of Modern Languages / Hatton Gallery
Time/Date: 1st February 2013 - 31st May 2013
"Schwitters in Newcastle" is a project run by the German Studies Section at the School of Modern Languages January to May 2013. We will be hosting a Kurt Schwitters art and German competition with schools across the North East as well as several workshops with students from Newcastle University (creative writing, journalism, translation of original letters by Schwitters in cooperation with the Kurt Schwitters Archive/Sprengel Museum, Hannover). Works produced during the school competition and the workshops will be shown in an exhibition in the lounge of the Hatton Gallery from mid-February to mid-May. We will also publish these works in a brochure which will focus on Kurt Schwitters and his contemporaries, especially other exile Germans in Newcastle or the UK.
The programme is co-ordinated by Aletta Rochau, M.A., who is sponsored by a 'Leonardo da Vinci' scholarship from the Hochschule Karlsruhe (KOOR/BEST) and is hosted by the German Section at Newcastle University.
